Ever since I discovered my first makeup setting spray I have been hooked. These products might seem gimmicky but I notice a huge difference when I use a makeup setting spray vs when I do not. I have been using the oil control version of the Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray for a year now. I absolutely love it. I recently started seeing a lot of people post about the Bridal version but I had no interest in it. For some reason, I associated “bridal” with dewy and assumed that the bridal setting spray was geared towards people with dry skin that wanted to look dewy and luminous on their big day.
When I went online to repurchase the Oil Control version I decided to take a peak at the Bridal description and was surprised. Here are the descriptions for both versions from the Scandinavia website:
“Kiss-proof, cry-proof and sweat-proof, Skindinavia’s ultra-fine spray is specially designed to resist the effects of excess moisture and helps keep makeup looking flawless. Our award-winning mist controls stress-induced shine and keeps makeup photo-ready for up to 16 hours. Recommended for all skin types.”
“Want your makeup to have the same stamina that you do? Our award-winning oil-control finishing spray gives you a beautiful soft-matte finish, while keeping your skin shine-free and your makeup perfectly in place. Say goodbye to grease, makeup creasing, fading and transfer – this specialized fine mist provides a weightless finish for up to 16 hours of matte makeup wear.”
I have bolded the most relevant parts. Once I read the description, I was actually very interested in trying the Bridal version. The first time I used it was to go swimming with a few friends and I used it to set my IT Cosmetics CC Cream and my MAC Cantaloupe blush. I did not go under water but I was definitely hot and my face got splashed a little. I could not believe how good my makeup looked after swimming for 4 hours.
So, I decided to use BOTH sprays for a few days (one on one half of my face, another on the other half of my face) to see how they compare. I went to a family dinner and got the opinions of 5 different family members (independent of one another). Shockingly, it was unanimous: every single person said that the side of my face with the oil control version looked better (“less shiny”, “less oily”, “looks better”, etc.). The only dissenter was my grandma (hi Mamma) who told me that my entire face looked oily. LOL. I personally could not see a noticeable difference but it was interesting to hear everyone else’s opinions.
I still enjoy the bridal version of the setting spray (I do not plan on returning it) but I will definitely be re-purchasing the Oil Control version from now on. What is your favorite setting spray?!
