I will admit that I tried to buy the Kyshadow Palette by Kylie Cosmetics on its release date. I set an alarm on my phone for the launch time, and repeatedly pressed the “refresh” button. The palette sold out in under a minute and I was not one of the “lucky” few to get it. I then saw on Kylie Cosmetic’s Instagram that the product would be “restocked’ a few days later.
My immediate reaction was “F%& this”. I am way too busy to be setting alarms and frantically pressing refresh for a MAKEUP product. And this is coming from a makeup lover. I am OVER brands releasing super-limited quantities to create hype around their products (cough cough Becca Cosmetics cough cough Jaclyn Hill Collaboration). I work in the business-world, so I certainly understand the idea behind supply and demand. It is understandable why a brand would release a conservative amount of products in order to gauge consumer demand. However, what Kylie Cosmetics did (releasing SUCH a limited quantity of their Kyshadow Palette when they knew the demand would be high) is something completely different.
I have much more respect for brands that release products with enough quantity that it gives the consumer time to actually decide if they want the product. When there is such a frenzy to buy a product, the consumer is unable to wait and read reviews or even really think about if they need the product. I want to support a brand that stands behind the quality of their products and does not have to create so much drama around their product in order to bump up demand.
So, I will not be purchasing the Kyshadow Palette. It is a shame, because I actually think this could be a great product. I am in love with the exterior of the packaging and the neutral eyeshadows are SPEAKING to me. I do think it is over-priced and should have included a mirror. However, those are small issues that I could have looked past. It is apparent from Kylie Jenner’s Snapchat that she is expanding her makeup line. I hope Kylie Cosmetics will consider building a brand based on quality products as opposed to a brand that creates hype by releasing limited quantities. What are your thoughts on the Kyshadow Palette?
