I saw Kathleen Lights post a video about how she did her makeup in high school and I LOVED the idea. I have always been a girly-girl that loves makeup. However, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I wish beauty gurus and YouTube videos had been around back in the day!
If you follow me on Snapchat, then you have probably heard me talk about my OBSESSION with bronzer during high school. I was really tan from playing tennis, so I actually used bronzer (Benefit Hoola) as an all-over face powder. In fact, when I emailed my mom today to see if she could remember what makeup products I used her response was “That Hulu bronzer for sure”. (Yes, she called it the HULU bronzer). HA. My two best friends and I would re-apply our bronzer in between EVERY class. Yikes.
My first foundation was the Bobbi Brown Natural Finish foundation. I still remember when my mom took my sister and I to Saks and we got shade-matched at the Bobbi Brown counter. That was my first experience with high-end makeup.
For my eye makeup, I always wore a single color all over the lid (my favorites were Kitten and Diamond Lil by Stila). I was also obsessed with Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. For “special events”, I would line my upper and lower lash line with a VERY black eyeliner.
For blush, I remember loving the Lancome Blush Subtil. I am not 100% certain of the shade – but the color Aplum looks and sounds familiar. It is interesting that a lot of my makeup choices in high school were from brands that are typically geared towards more mature skin (Lancome, Bobbi Brown, etc.). This is most likely due to the fact that my mom was the one purchasing these products.
I cannot remember what lip products I used to wear. Judging from my photos, my lips look very glossy and natural. This is very similar to my current taste in lip products.
Looking back, most of my makeup was high-end and purchased from a department store or Sephora. Maybe that is one of the reasons that I favor high-end makeup today. I also still have a soft spot in my heart for Benefit Hoola. It is actually the ONLY product listed that I still have in my collection. What was your high school makeup routine?
