I purchased the Morphe Flawless Beauty Sponge (the red one) and the Premium Beauty Sponge (the black one) after seeing Nicole from Young, Wild and Polished rave about them. She claimed these Morphe sponges were as good, if not better, than the Beauty Blender. I had never purchased any brushes (or sponges) from Morphe and they only cost $6.99 each so I decided to go ahead and give them a try.
Do I like these Morphe sponges as much as the beauty blender? No.
Flawless Beauty Sponge (red): The biggest difference for me is the fact that this sponge retains a TON of water. The first day I tried this it was soaking wet and basically absorbed all of my makeup. The other major difference is that this sponge is so much more dense than the beauty blender. So, the combination of the fact that it is more dense to begin with, and it retains a lot of water resulted in this sponge being much less squishy and bouncy than the Beauty Blender.
If you use your beauty sponges to apply foundation or powder products to your face – you may actually enjoy this sponge (or at least not be bothered by the fact that it is more dense and hard). The main reason that I use a beauty sponge is to apply concealer to my under-eye area. So for me, the “feel” of the sponge is very important. I did not enjoy pressing a harder sponge into my under-eye area as opposed to a soft and bouncy sponge like the Beauty Blender. However, when I compared this sponge side-by-side with the beauty blender, the end results were almost identical.
Premium Beauty Sponge (black): Honestly, I hated this one because of the shape. I cannot figure out why someone would want to use a sponge shaped like this (as opposed to one shaped like the Flawless Beauty Sponge or the Beauty Blender). I tried to make this work for me but it just kept flopping around on my face.
Bottom Line: I personally will not be repurchasing these Morphe sponges. In my opinion, the Beauty Blender is absolutely perfect and I do not mind paying extra for it. However, if you are looking to save a little money, then I would recommend checking out this drugstore alternative. In fact, I have been reaching for it OVER my beauty blender! What is your favorite beauty sponge??
