My lovely friend Kristine (@beautyplate) sent me the Milk Makeup Blur Stick to try. It has been on my wish list for forever so I was super excited to try it. According to Milk Makeup, this product is a “colorless, oil-free primer to blur the imperfections on all skin tones”. It is basically supposed to be like the Snapchat “pretty filter” but in real life!
I think the packaging is really sleek and adorable at the same time. I absolutely love that it is in stick form – it makes for a mess-free application. My friend warned me that hers broke off when she twisted it up, so I made sure to not twist mine up too much.
This product is vegan, cruelty-free, and free of all the bad stuff (parabens, sulfates, phthalates, dimethicone, oil, and gluten). It is free of silicone which means it will not clog your pores!
This product appears to be tinted in the packaging but it goes on clear. In fact, when I first tried it I couldn’t even tell if it was applying to my skin at all. To apply this product I swiped it ALL over my face and then sort of rubbed it in with my fingers. (If you apply too much it WILL “ball up” on your skin.)
To really test this product, I applied it to one of half of my face and skipped primer on the other half of my face. I found that it created a nice base and my makeup applied very smoothly on top. I noticed the biggest difference after I had a full face of makeup on. I am not kidding you guys – this product NOTICEABLEY blurred out my pores and skin.
The half of my face with this primer looked smoother, more airbrushed, and my pores looked less noticeable. I asked my husband (he is always my guinea pig when I am testing products and he can NEVER tell a difference) and he instantly knew which side of my face had the Milk Makeup Blur Stick applied to it. I did not notice this primer make my skin any more matte or any more oily than normal.
Honestly, I thought the Milk Makeup Blur Stick was going to be a fail. When the only people reviewing the product are the ones that got it as PR from the brand it makes me nervous. I was even more cautious because I feel like ALL primers are gimmicky. So to hear people say “Oh my gosh, it just blurred my face away” made me giggle and roll my eyes.
This review is coming from someone unbiased (I have no affiliation with the brand and I received the product from a friend) – THIS THING WORKS! Seriously, I cannot stop looking in the mirror. Now, it is not some miracle worker that is going to make you instantly look like Gigi Hadid. It also does not make you look like the Snapchat “pretty filter” in real life. But, it DOES make a noticeable difference in blurring out your pores and I never feel like any of my primers make any difference. I would highly recommend trying it out and I cannot wait to check out more products from Milk Makeup.
