I have wanted the Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad in Cocoa Mirage for two years. The colors in this palette are neutrals, my favorite kind of eyeshadows and I had heard incredible things about this palette. Professional makeup artist Wayne Goss even said this was his favorite eyeshadow palette. All of my makeup-loving friends told me it was a must-have. So, I finally bought it for myself! And then I promptly returned it. Here is why.
- This palette retails for $82. $82! That is a very expensive price tag for any eyeshadow palette, let alone a palette that only has FOUR shadows in it.
- All of the shadows in this palette are “dupable” and I already have very similar colors in my collection.
- I absolutely hated the white shadow in this palette. It looked awful on my skin tone and I did not even enjoy using it to set my eyeshadow primer. So, I certainly am not going to spend $20 on a shadow that I hate.
- I was not able to create a complete eye look using just this palette. More experienced or more adventurous makeup-wearers probably WOULD be able to… but for me, it lacked a wearable brow bone highlight and a good all over lid shade.
I can see why other people enjoy this palette. The three brown shadows in this palette are gorgeous. They are incredibly pigmented, creamy, and very easy to blend out. The packaging is also stunning and feels very luxurious (as it should!). I guess I am just surprised that so many people consider this palette a must-have.
In the end, I just could not justify spending $82 on a palette that contained 1 white shadow that I hated, and 3 brown shadows that I basically already owned. What do you think of this Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad? Do you own it?
