One of my favorite YouTubers, Marnie from MsGoldGirl has a series where she looks back on her PAST favorite products. As I was preparing to write my best of beauty blog post for 2016, I thought it would be good to take a look back at my 2015 favorites.
It was interesting… there is not a single product on this list that I no longer enjoy. A few items have become “obsolete” as I have simplified my makeup routine. A few items have been neglected due to the fact that I spent way too much money on makeup in 2016. However, there is not a single product that I do not like anymore.
Laura Mercier Translucent Powder – This is still the best loose setting powder I have ever tried and is a staple in my collection.
Urban Decay Naked Concealer – This is still my favorite concealer!! The Tarte Shape Tape Concealer gave it a run for it’s money but I still prefer the Urban Decay Naked Concealer. I find that I have to be careful with the Tarte Shape Tape because it is so full coverage so I prefer the Urban Decay Naked Concealer for everyday wear.
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Palette (the highlighter) – This is still my favorite highlighter in my collection. I still find the bronzer to be slightly too light to show up on my skin.
MAC 24 Hour Extend Eye Base – I have yet to find any primer better than this one from MAC. It is perfection and will always be in my collection.
Too Faced Chocolate Bar and Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palettes – These are still two of my favorite eyeshadow palettes in my collection. I reach for these palettes whenever I do not want to think about my eyeshadow look (as I have “go to looks” in each of these palettes).
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – I still use this every day! I also love the Skindinavia Oil Control Spray.
MAC Fix Plus – I still use this every single day!
Tom Ford Lipstick in So Vain – This color is gorgeous! I recently bought the shade Indian Rose by Tom Ford and I love both of them. I am surprised that So Vain does not get more attention!
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder – I still love this for setting my undereyes.
Estee Lauder Double Wear – This is still a GREAT foundation. It is beautiful, full coverage, and keeps me matte. However, this year I have been reaching for foundations that are slightly LESS coverage and slightly LESS matte. So, I still reach for this foundation but I prefer to apply it with a beauty blender for slightly less coverage.
Benefit Hoola Bronzer – Oh boy, this makes me sad but I have hardly reached for this bronzer. However, I still consider it a MUST-HAVE bronzer. This product has simply fallen victim to my excessive spending habits of 2016. I was so busy buying and trying new products that I neglected this oldie but goodie.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness – I honestly have hardly reached for this all year. Again, I have been opting for less products and foundations with less coverage and this product is REALLY thick and full coverage. If my skin is looking particularly red then I will apply this on top of my foundation.
Becca Cosmetics Undereye Brightener – I have not reached for this all year. I have simplified my makeup routine and applying a brightener under my concealer has become an unnecessary step.
Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop, MAC Warm Soul, Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed, Bobbi Brown Slopes – These blushes are gorgeous but I am a blush junkie and have purchased so many new blushes in 2016. My current obsession is the Charlotte Tilbury blush in First Love so most of the blushes in my collection have been seriously neglected since I discovered this one.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – This is still my favorite drugstore mascara. It provides so much length and volume.
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows – I have really neglected my single eyeshadows this year and have not reached for my Makeup Geek (or my MAC single shadows).
Becca Ombre Rouge Eyeshadow Palette – I have not reached for this very often this year. However, the colors are gorgeous and I love that you can create a complete look with this palette.
MAC Lipsticks – I still love all of my MAC lipsticks. Im fact, I have 2 shades I want to add to my collection (Modesty and Velvet Teddy).
Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua – I honestly have not reached for this in a long time. Another victim of my large collection!
This best of beauty blog post has lead me to the conclusion that I need to stop buying so much makeup. I have so many products in my collection that I love that have BARELY been used in a year!! My goal for 2017 is to spend less money on makeup and instead “shop my stash”!
