I have become hooked to podcasts. I love that they are audio only, you can listen to them anywhere. I listen to podcasts at work, while I drive, when I lay in bed at night, while I clean the house… you get the point. So, I want to share my favorite podcasts with you. These are 5 podcasts are truly addicting. They are the type that will get you hooked immediately and you will find yourself awake at 3AM binge-listening to them.
This is the podcast that started it all for me. The first season of Serial tells the story of a high-schooler named Adnan Syed who was convicted of murdering his high-school girlfriend Hae Min Lee. The story is truly fascinating and the host, Sarah Koenig, does an incredible job. I have found that the host of a podcast really makes or breaks the podcast and she is one of my favorite storytellers. If you have not listened to any podcasts, I would highly recommend you start here. There is also a second season about Bowe Bergdahl.
My Favorite Murder
This is the podcast that I am currently listening to and I am obsessed. Some of you will HATE this podcast. However, if you are like me and you are fascinated by true crime then you will love this. It feels like you are sitting around with two of your closest friends discussing different murder cases. The two hosts are both comedians so they are absolutely hilarious to listen to. However, if you are easily offended then you should probably pass on this one (in the first episode, while discussing the Jon Benet Ramsey case, they recommend that everyone should have two children so that one can be a “back-up child” in case your first child is ever murdered). Even though it is listed as a comedy podcast, the cases they discuss are absolutely terrifying.
This is a podcast about what it is like to start your own business. I know, this sounds BO-RING but I promise you it is not! The first season (my favorite) focuses on the podcasters themselves as they start their own podcasting company (Gimlet Media). I find the host, Alex Blumberg, to be incredibly likable and it is fascinating to listen to someone with almost no business experience start their own business. Season 2 features a dating/matchmaking company called “Dating Ring”. The current season, Season 3, follows a new start-up business in every episode.
Up and Vanished
This is another podcast that I am currently listening to. The host Payne Lindsey looks into the still unsolved disappearance of teacher and beauty queen, Tara Grinstead. This is another podcast where I find the host to be very likable and the story to be incredibly fascinating. In fact, in the most recent episode the host shared with us that someone has been harassing him on Facebook about his investigation of this case. I will not spoil who he thinks it is, but it is someone CLOSELY connected to Tara Grinstead. Talk about creepy!
This podcast looks into the still unsolved murder of Elizabeth Andes. However, it focuses on her boyfriend who went to trial for her murder and was found not guilty. The police offers still believe he did it, so it is very interesting to listen to. This story is told by two journalists so it is similar to Serial. I would not consider it as good as Serial but I would still recommend checking it out.
As you can probably tell, my favorite type of podcasts are the ones about true crime. I find them to be truly addicting and these 5 are totally binge-worthy. Are there any great podcasts that I have missed? If so, leave them in the comments below!
